First Lady Jill Biden has been diagnosed with COVID, but President Joseph R. Biden Jr., tested negative, according to statements Monday evening issued from the White House.

“This evening, the First Lady tested positive for COVID-19. She is currently experiencing only mild symptoms. She will remain at their home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware,” said the First Lady’s communications director Elizabeth Alexander in a statement posted on the WH website.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre meanwhile posted a separate statement:

Following the First Lady’s positive test for COVID-19, President Biden was administered a COVID test this evening. The President tested negative. The President will test at a regular cadence this week and monitor for symptoms.

The First Lady’s diagnosis comes after the president spoke to the Sheet Metal Workers Local 19 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and mixed with supporters to celebrate Labor Day.

While the First Lady was not part of the president’s event with the sheet metal workers, she did travel with him Saturday to Live Oak, Florida, where she and her husband met with survivors of Hurricane Idalia and the crews of personnel leading and contributing to the recovery from the Category 3 storm.

A little over a year ago, the First Lady was diagnosed with COVID shortly after the president’s own bout with the disease while the First Couple was vacationing in South Carolina. Then, the First Lady was treated with Paxlovid and recuperated in a private home.

Her husband has been a relentless advocate for mRNA COVID vaccines, and his administration’s vaccine mandates for jabs and masks have been thwarted by the courts and Congress.

In September 2021, Biden reframed the COVID-19 crisis as a problem exacerbated by the unvaccinated.

This is a pandemic of the unvaccinated, and it’s caused by the fact that despite America having an unprecedented and successful vaccination program, despite the fact that for almost five months free vaccines have been available in 80,000 different locations, we still have nearly 80 million Americans who have failed to get the shot. 

To make matters worse, there are elected officials actively working to undermine the fight against COVID-19. Instead of encouraging people to get vaccinated and mask up, they’re ordering mobile morgues for the unvaccinated dying from COVID in their communities. This is totally unacceptable.

Like other high-profile vaccinated individuals before her, the First Lady getting COVID again calls into question the efficacy of the shots, especially in the light of studies that show that from April 2022, the majority of COVID deaths have been among the vaccinated.
