Poll: Nearly Two-Thirds of Democrats Don’t Want Biden as 2024 Presidential Candidate

A new New York Times/Siena College poll showed that 64 percent of Democratic voters do not want President Joe Biden to run again in 2024.

As RedState’s Nick Arama reported, Biden’s approval rating has dipped to 29 percent. Now, even Democrats, along with Republicans and Independents, don’t want to see Biden run in 2024.

Biden has claimed he will run in 2024, which could clear the way for him to be the nominee, even if a progressive candidate not named Bernie Sanders challenges him. However, only 26 percent of Democrat voters polled said the party should renominate Biden in 2024. And 94 percent of Democrats polled who were under the age of 30 said they want to see someone else as the nominee.

Just six percent of the working class — 18 to 64 years old — told the pollsters that the economy is in “good” or “excellent” condition, while 93 percent rated it “poor” or “fair,” as these numbers continue to be damning for Biden.

Nicole Farrier, a 38-year-old preschool teacher in Michigan and Biden voter, told the New York Times that she had hoped Biden would unite the country and bridge the divisions but has become disillusioned.

“I’m just going to come out and say it: I want younger blood … I am so tired of all old people running our country. I don’t want someone knocking on death’s door.”

The Democrats have minimal depth, assuming Vice President Kamala Harris doesn’t run or win the nomination. Some names that have been mentioned are Governors Andy Beshear (D-KY), Gavin Newsom (D-CA), Roy Cooper (D-NC), J.B. Pritzker (D-IL), and Senator Amy Klobucar (D-MN).

The progressive wing of the party will come up with a challenger as well, but if Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT) or Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) do not run in 2024, the progressives will likely have a slim chance as a far-left member of the “Squad” will be their choice. The more moderate options, with the exception of Newsom, have a better chance of winning the nomination and general election.

As you can see, though, their depth is nowhere near what we saw in 2020. If Biden is booted out, Cooper or Beshear should be the leading candidate if the Democrats want a chance to win in 2024.

From the GOP field, whether Trump decides to run or not, former Vice President Mike Pence (R-IN), former United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, Governor Larry Hogan (R-MD), Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Senator Tom Cotton (R-AK) have all hinted at running for President thus far, planning to or already made trips to Iowa. Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) seems to have the backing of GOP donors and insiders if he decides to run.

Following the November midterms, it will be clearer who will run for President in 2024 for both political fields. It seems like the majority of Americans do not want to see a Biden, Trump 2024 rematch. They want younger people to run, as Farrier alluded to.
