Movie theaters have issued a warning that “disruptive behavior” will “not be tolerated” after an insane “A Minecraft Movie,” viral TikTok trend encouraged young audiences to go throw food, scream, and more.

One warning posted at a Cineworld movie house in the United Kingdom read: “Any form of anti-social behavior, especially anything that may disturb other guests such as loud screaming, clapping and shouting will not be tolerated.”

It continued: “Anyone who is found to be acting in this manner will be removed from the screening and not entitled to a refund."

Here's a video showing what's been happening:

In a statement published in the BBC story linked above, the theater chain said,

"To make sure everyone has a blast, we ask that all cinemagoers respect cinema etiquette. For fans wanting to whoop, yelp and clap their way through this block-busting adventure, we have created special Chicken Jockey 4DX screenings at Cineworld cinemas nationwide."

Another Cineworld theater, this one in Scotland, released a statement on its Instagram account:

"We’ve been informed of reports of an online trend that includes making excessive noise during ‘A Minecraft Movie.’ We would like to remind everyone to please be respectful to those around them by not making noise nor being on their phones during any movie. Failure to do so may result in ejection from the cinema."

England’s REEL Cinema chain sent out a similar warning that in order “to ensure everyone has the best possible cinema experience, we’re increasing our monitoring of screens during performances.”

“Disruptive behavior, including taking part in TikTok trends, before, during, or after a screening will not be tolerated,” it added. “Anyone causing disruption will be asked to leave, and where necessary, the police will be called.”

Videos of younger moviegoers going crazy inside theaters in the UK, and in at least one movie theater in the United States, have gone viral since the film was released on April 4. In social media posts, people throw popcorn, yell, clap, and shout during various parts of the Warner Bros film when Jack Black’s character states, “I am Steve” and yells “Chicken Jockey,” among other lines.

One New Jersey theater has said that unaccompanied minors will not be admitted to screenings of the PG-rated Minecraft movie after it said a group of young boys was disruptive during the film.

The theater accused moviegoers of “unacceptable behavior, including vandalism,” and said it had received “multiple complaints from others trying to watch the film.”

A theater in Alaska has also reportedly been impacted by the trend, with one publication reporting that the police were called when more than a dozen young people watching the film got “rowdy.”
