Leftist Cat Ladies, Wine-moms, and White Dudes for Kamala have now settled into their malaise of depression, punctuated by TikTok videos of vapid threats and purple-haired women denying sex to their partners. They are collectively assuring us "Not my president!", but what they seem to ignore is that the nation hasn’t had a president for almost four years.
Over the past few weeks, Biden has completely checked out. He doesn't care, and it shows. He got shanked by his party and he's letting everyone see that we really haven't had a president for some time. We’ve seen him walk through sand with his wife, (the de facto president?), clearly done with pretending that her husband isn’t a doddering old man. Her presidency ends as well, and it is ripping her up.
I spoke to a guy today who has a retired Secret Service buddy telling him that Jill Biden is the most hated first lady in memory. Considering that Hillary was the first lady at one time, and universally hated, that was quite the hill to climb.
So where does that leave the country? We are clearly without a president. Nate Silver has now suggested that Joe pass into obscurity and give up what’s left of his legacy. Silver thinks Biden needs to resign. In a perfect world, I would agree – but this isn’t a perfect world, and the Constitutional choice as his replacement is... Kamala Harris.
Silver opined:
"President Joe Biden was in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, unprotected from mosquitoes, fire ants and loud, squawking macaws. But there was another pest he did manage to avoid: the pack of reporters traveling with him -
"During a six-day foreign trip to Peru and Brazil that wrapped up Monday, the president rarely spoke in public, answering almost no questions despite repeated efforts to engage him. One television producer took to writing messages on a large pad of paper, holding it up as Biden boarded and departed Air Force One."
Calling for Biden to resign to allow the most unpopular VP in history to take over as president is the left’s soup de-jour. I don’t think it’s out of patriotism. It’s likely rooted in wanting to deny Trump his “47” merch and to poke a stick in Trump’s eye. “Sure you beat her, but she was still the 47th president". If it was based on patriotism Silver and the rest of the left would have been calling for his resignation years ago. They knew, like we all knew.
And this from Silver:
"But Biden just hit a new all-time low in approval (37.4%) at 538 yesterday. Dropping out would be a big risk. But there's some threshold below which continuing to run is a bigger risk. Are we there yet? I don't know. But it's more than fair to ask," Silver wrote. "What's clearer IMO is that Democrats would have been better served if Biden had decided a year ago not to seek a second term, which would have allowed them to have some semblance of a primary process and give voters a say among the many popular Democrats across the country."
Newsweek published a (mostly) frank assessment that Biden will not be treated kindly by history.
President Joe Biden regularly compared his presidency to Franklin D. Roosevelt's. Both men took office during a global economic crisis and soaring national unemployment. Both passed major spending bills to put money in people's pockets and literally rebuild the country. Both faced down fascist threats. And like FDR, Biden wanted his presidential legacy to be that of a transformative figure, lifting America out of the depths of COVID-19 and Trumpism toward a new era of prosperity. Instead, Biden's presidency will be remembered, to the extent it is at all, as a bump in the road of the Trump Era.
As it stands, Biden's stubborn insistence on seeking a second term to solidify his FDR-like legacy in the face of dreadful internal polling numbers, and refusal to step aside until the eleventh hour, all but doomed his party's chances in 2024 and doomed all of us to four years of unrestrained Trump. And as a result, he likely doomed his legacy as well.
Biden became president due to a confluence of never-to-be-repeated factors. Floyd riots, a Pandemic, and Biden's ability to sit in a basement and allow captured media to paint him as the next FDR when he was more of the next Millard Filmore.
Biden was an awful man, a terrible Senator, and a remarkably bad President.
Joe Biden wandering into an Amazon forest is an apt end to his worthless presidency. Goodbye, Joe and more importantly goodbye Jill Biden. After January 21, 2025, I hope her face never darkens the national seen again.
