Disney Says Not so Fast, When Daily Mail Shares 'Exclusive' Photos of Snow White and Her 7 'Magical Creatures'

“Ohhhh Boy!” cried Disney’s Mickey. “Ohhhh Boy!”

Is the mouse allowed to say that? How misogynistic of the House of Mouse. And what are Mickey’s pronouns?

Anyway, on the heels of “The Little Mermaid,” a live-action remake that is still not quite breaking even—even with it topping a half billion in ticket sales—Disney studios are mining the past to redo and wreck another classic film.

Disney’s “The Lion King,” live-action remake was a critical flop but made over a billion dollars worldwide. But memories and imagination in Hollywood are short, so Disney is on a “let’s remake a classic” kick.

They have no intention and apparently, no ability to invent, create, or “imagineer” anything new so Disney is dusting off its oldest cartoon and turning it into a live-action film. In 1937, Disney produced “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” to critical and financial success. The remake will be released in March 2024.

When news of the remake hit, a little guy who has made a fortune playing a little man was aghast. RedState’s own Brandon Morse wrote about it in 2022:

Perhaps as an unlooked-for consequence of his woke rant, Disney seems to be taking actor Peter Dinklage’s anger to heart and reworking their new “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” remake to not include the Dwarfs.

It all started with the actor made popular by playing Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones appeared on comedian Marc Maron’s podcast and ranted about the wokeness of Disney’s Snow White remake not going far enough, according to The Wrap:

“Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White — but you’re still telling the story of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,’ ” Dinklage said.

“Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me,” he continued. “You’re progressive in one way, but then you’re still making that f – – king backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together. What the f – – k are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”

To be clear, Dinklage has played dwarf characters in the fairy tale sense himself, including Trumpkin in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and Eitri in Infinity War.

Disney ditched the dwarves in an effort to appease one dwarf, resulting in dwarves no longer playing dwarves (and being unemployed). Rather, other actors get to play “magical creatures.” But not before one dwarf (sorry, one little person) was cast as Grumpy.

Now, is Snow White snow-white? You’d have to ask the actress to self-identify on that characterization. Can’t make assumptions. The actress playing the part is Rachel Ziegler. Her parents are of Polish and Colombian ancestry. She recently played Maria in “West Side Story.” Disney hasn’t announced how it will deal with the “skin as white as snow” conundrum, but rest assured, if Disney can disappear dwarves in a story about dwarves, they can disappear “Snow White” from Snow White, too.

Fast forward to the present day. The Daily Mail published an article claiming to have “exclusive” photos of Snow White and her gang of “magical creatures.” The photos depict a group of seven actors dressed in some pretty awful costuming. They look more like they stepped out of a cos-playing “Star Wars” bar, or out of Goodwill’s bargain rack, not playing a group of magical, merry Disney characters.

Disney jumped in and disclaimed the photos, saying in a terse and slightly nuanced statement that the photos are “not from our production.” No one at this point knows who is playing the magical creatures, save for Grumpy. That part is, indeed, played by a “little person” named  Martin Klebba. I could be wrong but the little dude leading the merry band of magic actors sure looks a lot like Klebba.

Who knows who is telling the truth. Apparently, Disney reached out to the Dail Mail and asked for a retraction. The article has been up for eight hours without a correction or retraction. And, so has its tweet. Maybe Disney is playing word games here? Or maybe the Daily Mail got punked, and the photos are all fake. I tend to believe that they are not “production” photos – rather pre-production or as a part of the blocking process.

One thing we can be assured of: no dwarfs will be in the title, no Prince Charming will arrive to rescue Snow White, and in present-day Disney productions, one of the magical creatures will have to be gay.

Sorry, I don’t make the rules.
