Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz’s body was resting in a flagged-draped coffin. Each coffin, identical to the next coffin. Each coffin contained the remains of the 13 dead American soldiers. They were slowly removed from the back of a C-17 and moved to ground transportation. Families were in attendance. So was Joe Biden.
Fathers and mothers, sisters, brothers, wives – all watched as each coffin was moved. Jared’s dad, Mark Schmitz watched as Joe Biden placed his right hand over his heart – then inexplicably, as each coffin was loaded in a hearse, President Biden seemed to check his watch. “After the fourth time…considering why we were there, I couldn’t watch,” said Mr. Schimtz.
Darin Hoover, the father of Staff Sgt. Hoover, saw it, too. Mark Schmitz couldn’t watch, his emotions and rage taking control; Mr. Hoover couldn’t avert his eyes. Mr. Hoover said: “That didn’t happen just once, it happened for every last one – all thirteen.”
The White House claims Mr. Biden was looking at a rosary on his left wrist. According to the White House, he wears that in honor of his son Beau. I’m not buying it. If that is the case, he (or his handlers) should have recognized the terrible optics that would evince. If he’s going to make that emotional connection, why turn his wrist so his $10,000 Rolex watch is facing up? Why wear a watch at all? If “honoring” Beau was the motivation for turning his watch face up for each coffin, and stare at his sleeve, what does Beau have to do with 13 dead heroes?
Later, families recalled that while meeting the Bidens, Joe kept referring to his son Beau. Joe has a habit of conflating Beau’s service, and Beau’s unrelated death to brain cancer, to combat soldiers dying in combat. He did it during his interview with George Stephanopoulos
“STEPHANOPOULOS: I– I think a lot of– a lot of Americans, and l– even a lot of veterans who served in Afghanistan agree with you on the big, strategic picture. They believe we had to get out. But I wonder how you respond to an Army Special Forces officer, Javier McKay (PH). He did seven tours. He was shot twice. He agrees with you. He says, “We have to cut our losses in Afghanistan.” But he adds, “I just wish we could’ve left with honor.”
BIDEN: Look, that’s like askin’ my deceased son Beau, who spent six months in Kosovo and a year in Iraq as a Navy captain and then major– I mean, as an Army major. And, you know, I’m sure h– he had regrets comin’ out of Afganista– I mean, out of Iraq. “
He shamefully invoked Beau, to juxtapose his son with a combat veteran who deployed seven times and was shot twice. It’s disgraceful.
And for those who might claim, “Oh, he’s just relating to families losing a son (or daughter).” I’m not buying that either. Biden has a habit of inflating his resume. He’s done it over and over again, but the most recent and consistently awful, Biden comparing Beau to combat soldiers.
I can respect Beau’s service – but the closest Beau got to combat was reviewing After Action Reports as a JAG in his air-conditioned office. He never saw combat, and he didn’t die from service-related injuries. If the argument remains, “Well, President Biden is just relating to the loss of a child” – really? Biden lost another child (Amy), but he didn’t mention Amy during his meeting with soldier families.
The purpose of mentioning Beau (and not Amy) had one purpose. “I lost a soldier, too,” One of Joe Biden’s worst qualities is his insistence on inventing and/or inflating what he possesses or has done.
People used to just laugh at Joe’s invented life arch. It was just “cute” when he had no actual power. Now he’s the president, and he just insulted 13 families with disrespectful watch-checking. Biden’s family wore (and maybe still wear) a bracelet with “WWBD” (What Would Beau Do) beads. If Joe Biden was wearing that, instead of a rosary, I doubt Beau would have approved of his father invoking his name.
Time’s up Joe. If you’re not going to resign – just stop sucking? Please?
