San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane is under investigation by the NHL following an accusation by his wife Anna, which she made on her Instagram page, that he bet on games in which he played.

The first of four posts, made today, is text (all formatting and spelling copied from the original) reading as follows:

The fourth, and as of this writing most recent, entry shows a picture of one mailed promotional flyer from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Wheatland, California (the establishment goes by the city name of Sacramento) and two flyers from Viejas Casino & Resort in Alpine, California which is near San Diego. Kane’s name is visible on the Hard Rock flyer in the place where an address would be printed. Accompanying the photos is the text:

Kane’s gambling problem is well-known. In January of this year, he filed for bankruptcy, listing as one of the debts owed a substantial sum for which he is being sued by the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Kane was — prior to the gambling accusation —reported to be on the trading block by the Sharks, as, despite leading the team in scoring last year, he was a source of friction in the locker room.

The NHL and Sharks have released statements on the matter. From the NHL:

“The League was made aware this evening of a post on social media alleging that San Jose Sharks Player Evander Kane bet on NHL games. The integrity of our game is paramount and the League takes these allegations very seriously. We intend to conduct a full investigation and will have no further comment at this time.”

From the Sharks:

“The Sharks have been in contact today with the (NHL) about the serious allegations made against Evander Kane. We support a full and transparent investigation into the situation to maintain the integrity of the game and consistency with our team values.”

One would hope that should Anna Kane’s accusations against her presumably soon to be ex-husband be true, even aside from the gambling issues, the team would seek to void his contract for being an absolutely disgusting puke. No one expects professional athletes to be perfect, but this kind of behavior is unacceptable at any level.
