As we covered earlier today, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra filed a petition Tuesday in Sacramento Superior Court, asking a judge to order the California Republican Party to answer subpoenas and investigative interrogatories that asked the party to provide a list of the names, addresses, and dates of birth of voters who’d entrusted the CAGOP to deliver their vote-by-mail ballot to the appropriate county registrar.

At a hearing Wednesday, the judge denied the state’s petition, and “even brought up Rep. Harley Rouda’s ‘neighborhood hubs’ ballot gathering program, similar to the CAGOP’s, forcing the Attorney General’s office to hint they ‘may’ be looking into it, according to a statement from CAGOP spokesman Hector Barajas.

Becerra’s office sent Ashley Zavala, Sacramento correspondent for multiple news organizations, a statement:

Republican State Senator Melissa Melendez reminded Becerra’s office, and all of Twitter, of the rules, which were enacted by Democrats:
