As we covered earlier today, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra filed a petition Tuesday in Sacramento Superior Court, asking a judge to order the California Republican Party to answer subpoenas and investigative interrogatories that asked the party to provide a list of the names, addresses, and dates of birth of voters who’d entrusted the CAGOP to deliver their vote-by-mail ballot to the appropriate county registrar.
At a hearing Wednesday, the judge denied the state’s petition, and “even brought up Rep. Harley Rouda’s ‘neighborhood hubs’ ballot gathering program, similar to the CAGOP’s, forcing the Attorney General’s office to hint they ‘may’ be looking into it, according to a statement from CAGOP spokesman Hector Barajas.

Becerra’s office sent Ashley Zavala, Sacramento correspondent for multiple news organizations, a statement:
CA AG Xavier Becerra’s office sent me this statement:
“We’re reviewing the matter and, following this morning’s procedural hearing, will continue to take steps — including in court where necessary — to ensure that every voter who casts their ballot will have their voices heard.”

Republican State Senator Melissa Melendez reminded Becerra’s office, and all of Twitter, of the rules, which were enacted by Democrats:
Today the court denied AG Becerra access to the names of all the people who gave their ballots to republican ballot harvesters. Perhaps he’s unfamiliar with the rules, the ones democrats came up with ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/n2lNUMrjg6

This is likely not the last we’ll hear of this issue. Padilla and Becerra won’t go down without a fight.
