The debate has become prevalent in Bay Area high schools in California in part due to issues that came up during Aragon High School’s volleyball tournament on October 12, 2024. The controversy began when Notre Dame Belmont parents were accused of harassing a trans-identified player from Half Moon Bay’s team, according to an ABC7 News report.

Details are laid out in email exchanges obtained by ABC7 News between Aragon and Notre Dame Belmont officials. Aragon athletic director Steve Sell, in his capacity as co-chair of the Peninsula Athletic League Athletic Directors, informed Notre Dame that consequences may be applied after Notre Dame parents and fans booed and harassed a transgender player on their opponent Half Moon Bay's team.

But this was apparently not a one-off. Sell noted that Notre Dame Belmont had canceled a non-league game against Half Moon Bay earlier in the season, citing the transgender player.

Sell appeared on ABC7 News at 3 p.m. this week and talked to ABC7 News anchor Kristen Sze about this concerns over the current movement to ban transgender girls from competition, despite the federal law Title IX which prevents discrimination based on sex, and the by-laws of the California Interscholastic Federation, which recognize all students' opportunity to participate "in a manner that is consistent with their gender identity."

Sell, a former football player and veteran football coach and athletic director says, "Right now, it's incredibly scary. Quite frankly, I'm a little frightened for the kids, for trans girls, not just in our state, but all around the country, who just want to belong, connect and compete by playing high school sports."

The athletic director argued that college women’s teams tend to practice against men in several other sports because of the heightened challenge and downplayed concerns over safety. He acknowledged that “The potential risk [for harm to female athletes] is not zero” but asserted that “the safety argument to me is not terrific.”

Sell’s comments underscore the overall attitude of those on the progressive left who want biological males to compete against women without backlash. He expresses deep concern for trans-identified boys who want to play against girls but shows almost no regard for how it affects female players.

In fact, Sell completely ignores the actual reason why parents and other spectators might boo a boy who is playing against female athletes. For starters, there have been plenty of stories detailing how female players have been injured by biological males in their sporting events.

A female volleyball player suffered a concussion and other injuries after a trans-identified male spiked the ball into her head.

In this story, one can see not only the danger facing female athletes but also the environment intended to keep dissenting voices silent about the matter.

A concerned father in California has come forward to reveal that his daughter sustained a traumatic concussion after playing high school volleyball against an opposing team with a trans-identified male student. Luis, whose name is being anonymized at his request due to fears about repercussions against his family, alleges his daughter had a ball spiked into her head so hard that she experienced blurry vision.

The incident occurred in October during a match at Half Moon Bay High School. Luis was in attendance to support his 17-year-old daughter, who was playing on behalf of a visiting high school Reduxx has chosen to withhold the name of in order to protect her identity. Luis explains that volleyball had been one of his daughter’s passions from an early age.

“My daughter has been involved in volleyball since she was in 4th grade,” he says. “She has always been a kid with her eye on the prize. When she first started asking about playing volleyball she began practicing in the backyard. For hours at a time, she’d hit the ball on the sloped roof. Eventually she was able to be a Team Captain at her school.”

This is one of many reports of female high school athletes being injured by boys. Yet, none of these instances faze folks like Sell, who are all too willing to see girls harmed because of some warped idea of “inclusion.”

The bottom line is that these people do not care about your children’s safety unless they identify as transgender. In that case, the feelings of the trans-identified individual are far more important than a female athlete sustaining concussions and other types of injuries. It is their version of having to break a few eggs to make an omelet. There is no reasoning with these people. The only way to stop this is for more people to stand up and fight back.
