It’s already bad enough that the progressive political apparatus is trying desperately to convince, cajole, and coerce the American public into pretending that men can become women and vice versa. Their efforts to force female athletes to compete against biological males despite knowing that the latter has unfair physical advantages over the former have already caused more than enough harm.
But it is even more obnoxious to see female athletes co-sign this agenda with complete disregard as to how it will affect women’s spaces.
Enter former U.S. women’s soccer player Megan Rapinoe and a slew of others who recently signed a letter to the NCAA urging them to continue forcing female athletes to compete against physically stronger males.
Former U.S. women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe and WNBA legend Sue Bird were among the current and former athletes who signed Athlete Ally’s letter to the NCAA urging the organization to forgo enacting a policy that would bar trans athletes from competing in women’s sports.
The letter from the LGBTQ advocacy group came after more than a dozen House Republican lawmakers urged NCAA president Charlie Baker to ban transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports, following a policy set by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics earlier this month. The lawmakers cited Lia Thomas’ national championship in 2022, which marked Thomas as the first trans woman to win an NCAA national title.
The letter called on the NCAA to “ensure that the lifesaving power of sport is accessible to all athletes who compete in championship and emerging sports at and for NCAA-member institutions – including transgender athletes.”
In the letter, the athletes argue that “To deny transgender athletes the fundamental right to be who they are, to access the sport they love, and to receive the proven mental and physical health benefits of sport goes against the very principles of the NCAA’s Constitution.”
Rapinoe and Company also targeted former Kentucky State University swimmer Riley Gaines, an outspoken critic of transgenders in sports, accusing her of inciting “transphobic hatred and policy, despite the hundreds of swimmers who have stated their support for transgender athletes.”
The letter argued that “Allowing transgender athletes within the NCAA to participate in the sports they love as who they truly are alongside their teammates fulfills the true spirit of Olympism we all ascribe to” and that “Sport should never be for a select few.”
The athletes who signed on to the letter appear to be responding to criticism coming from House Republicans who sent their own missive to the NCAA arguing against the inclusion of biological males in women’s sports and Riley Gaines, who has been at the forefront of the effort to prevent this.
During an appearance on Fox News’ “America Reports,” Gaines lauded West Virginia’s fight against the courts over their law disallowing men from competing in women’s sports.
"I could not be more proud of these girls," Gaines, an OutKick contributor who hosts the "Gaines for Girls" podcast told Sandra Smith. "Again, 13, 14 years old, they’re in middle school yet they’re the ones who are forced to be the adults in the room to advocate for their own rights to quality opportunity, safety and privacy which were once ensured by Title IX, but now, of course, are under threat, and which were once ensured by the law here in West Virginia. But now, with the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals’ ruling, it’s all under threat, which sets a terrible precedent
"Could not be more proud, could not be more inspired, by these girls. Ultimately, that’s what revitalizes me. It reminds me of what we’re fighting for. It’s girls just like Emmy Salerno and the other four girls who decided not to compete against a boy when given the opportunity."
Despite what common sense tells us, there are still many who buy into the gender agenda progressives are foisting on Americans in various institutions. Sports is one of many battlefields on which the battle to protect women is being fought. Fortunately, it appears there are more who are willing to stand up against the effort to force men into women’s spaces.
