A quote from author Ayn Rand got me thinking about this very topic. “When the law no longer protects you from the corrupt but protects the corrupt from you – you know your nation is doomed,” she said.

Is our nation doomed?

Currently, we are watching the powers that be continue to amass more power while using the state to force a distinctly authoritarian agenda. The federal government has been weaponized against a political opponent who disrupted the machine by daring to pose a threat to the establishment. They are not indicting former President Donald Trump because he actually did something wrong. Rather, they are doing so to send a message to others who might attempt to do the same.

The FBI and Justice Department are viciously targeting pro-life activists for exercising their right to free speech. In fact, three of them could be facing over a decade in prison for engaging in this activity.

Meanwhile, the son of President Joe Biden is being treated with kid gloves. Despite evidence of wrongdoing, he is, so far, only being prosecuted on a gun charge that should not exist in the first place. He stands a good chance of being acquitted due to the Supreme Court ruling in New York Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen.

Even further, both of the major parties are growing the government as quickly as they possibly can, further expanding their authority to rule over us.

Of course, this is not the first time in history that elites have leveraged the power of the state to enrich themselves at the expense of everyday folks. There has always been a two-tier justice system in which the rich and powerful can get away with crimes that would send the rest of us to prison for ages.

But it seems even clearer now that many, if not most, of our laws are intended to keep us in line while members of the ruling class flout them with impunity. I don’t need to remind you of the many Democratic politicians who were caught sans masks during the COVID-19 pandemic while threatening the rest of us if we refused to show our faces, do I?

We are now living in an age where Rand’s quote has presented itself in full living color. Traditionally, law was seen as a beacon of sorts, guiding societies towards progress. The purpose of the law and the governing authorities who enforce it was to protect our natural rights from threats foreign and domestic. But now, it has become a way of forcing people to live as the elites say they should live – and far too many of us buy into it.

You cannot run your business as you see fit because the government tells you exactly how to sell your wares. You cannot choose what you put into your body, whether it be a plant or a vaccine, without the state determining what is best for you. Indeed, you can’t even drive a car without having the appropriate sticker on the window.

There are many in positions of power who would go even further than this if they believed they could get away with it. We all saw how New Mexico’s governor tried to ban the carrying of firearms in Albuquerque ostensibly to curb gun violence, didn’t we?

It seems that everywhere we turn, there are those seeking to use the law to dictate how we defend ourselves, raise our children, and spend our hard-earned money, much of which we must pay as tribute to the state so they can send it to another country to fund its war effort.

The situation can seem rather bleak sometimes.

I do believe there is still hope for us to have a society that truly values and embraces liberty. In many cases, there are people across the country using their voices to speak out against blatant tyranny. Parents are tackling governments seeking to indoctrinate, and even mutilate, their children. New Mexico failed to ban firearms in the city because people got together to tell the governor that they were not going to abide by her authoritarian measures. These are only a few examples.

But I fear they will not be enough. There must be an awakening in this country among those who are being oppressed by the state. We need millions more to wake up to what is happening. They must be inspired to get their boots on the ground and dirt on their hands to fight back. We need more people to take to the streets when the government decides it wants to throw its weight around. When someone’s rights are being violated, we must be the ones to tell them that tyranny will not be tolerated.

When folks on both sides of the political spectrum realize that their true enemy is the elite ruling class and not each other, we can finally begin to see some positive change. There is a reason why politicians and their close friends and allies in the elite media want us so divided, isn’t there? While we lash out at one another, they continue growing stronger. The question is: When will we finally be ready to direct our fury at those who truly deserve it?
