During a Saturday rally in Georgia, President Trump added his voice to those vocally disagreeing with those calling for Republican voters to withhold their votes during the state’s Senate runoff elections. In the speech, the president pointed out the high stakes of this particular race, which will decide which party controls the Senate. 

Trump discussed the accomplishments his administration made over the past four years. He told the audience that these achievements are on the line, and conservative voters must protect these gains. 

“We built the greatest military in the world, and the better it is, the less likely it is that we’re going to have to use it,” Trump said. “But everything we’ve achieved together is on the line on” the day of the election.

“If you don’t vote, the socialists and the communists win; they win,” the president continued. “Georgia patriots must show up and vote for these two incredible people, and I’m telling you, they are two of the finest people you’ll ever meet.”

The president held the rally to support Republican Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, who are campaigning in the runoff elections to keep their seats. During his speech, Trump repeated his claims that the presidential election was “rigged” and called on Gov. Brian Kemp to get to the bottom of the fraud allegations that have plagued the state since Election Day. 

“If I lost, I’d be a very gracious loser. If I lost, I would say I lost, and I’d go to Florida, and I’d take it easy, and I’d go around, and I’d say I did a good job,” Trump said. “But you can’t ever accept when they steal and rig and lie.”

Attorneys Lin Wood and Sidney Powell, along with conservative activist Ali Alexander have urged their followers to stay home on the day of the runoff election to protest the supposed failure of Georgia politicians to fight for President Trump. Wood and Powell have claimed, with no evidence, that Kemp, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, and other GOP elected officials were involved in a foreign interference plot to deny Trump the victory. 

The debate over election fraud in Georgia has intensified over the past few days after Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani unveiled footage of workers counting ballots after observers and media were allegedly told to leave. While the video does not prove that the votes being counted were fraudulent, it raised suspicions even higher and prompted Gov. Kemp to call for a signature audit. 

The Georgia saga is not over yet. But as the runoff election nears, both the Republican and Democratic parties are working overtime to get their candidates over the finish line. The result of the runoff will determine how easy it will be for former Vice President Joe Biden to enact his agenda if he becomes the next president, which is why Trump is right: Encouraging Republican voters to sit this one out is a ridiculous idea.
