Republican Mark Robinson Wins Election And Makes History

At least one election made history on Tuesday. After winning his election, Republican Mark Robinson will become North Carolina’s first black lieutenant governor. The candidate has been well-known on the right since 2018 when he gave a fiery pro-2nd amendment speech to the Greensboro City Council.

Robinson defeated Democrat Yvonne Lewis Holley, who also would have made history as a black woman if she had won. On Wednesday morning, Robinson led Holley by three percentage points with 75% of ballots counted, according to the North Carolina State Board of Elections website.

Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper will remain in his seat after defeating the state’s current Lt. Gov. Dan Forest. Robinson rose to social media fame when a video showing him laying into the anti-gun movement during a city council meeting went viral.

“Our message is so much more than the Second Amendment, which is a crucial issue,” Robinson said in an appearance on “Fox and Friends in March. “It’s a message that touches on all the topics conservative North Carolinians are concerned with today.”

Robinson won his race despite the fact that a Mike Bloomberg-affiliated group poured $2.5 million into his opponent’s campaign.

While the left-leaning corporate press will pay no attention to the historic nature of Robinson’s victory, it is significant nonetheless. Moreover, this win is yet another factor that might push the Republican Party toward making a push to win over more black Americans.

Exit polls are showing that President Trump has increased his support among black Americans, and while it’s still too early to determine his final numbers among blacks and other minorities, it is obvious that the GOP has a golden opportunity to win over black Americans who are growing increasingly fed up with the Democratic party. John James, who is running for the Senate in Michigan, could mean more diversity among Republican officials. He is maintaining a slight lead over his opponent and stands a decent chance at securing victory. If elected, James would become the second black Republican in the Senate.

Black Republicans are also running in other races at the state and local level, and while the votes haven’t been completed it, some of them could win, or at least make a surprisingly good showing. Hopefully, these races are a sign to the former Party of Lincoln that it is finally time to re-engage with the black community so it can start to make inroads in territory that the Democrats have possessed for decades.
