John Fund has a good piece on the coming “doc fix” fight.

The ‘doc fix’ comes from a congressional mandate cutting the amount of money doctors are paid for treating medicare patients. A lot of doctors have stopped treating them. Every few years, Congress comes back and tinkers some more. Now [mc_name name=’Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’B000589′ ] and [mc_name name=’Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’P000197′ ] are collaborating on a new formula under which doctors will be paid.

As Fund notes, it is a special interest give away. It will escalate spending and actually do little to help the doctors it supposedly helps. But it will massively help special interests, including some major insurance companies.

The AARP on the left and Heritage Action for America on the right are both opposed to it, as they should be.
