Although Alan Dershowitz cast his vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016, he has stood up for President Trump on numerous occasions throughout his presidency. The outspoken Harvard Law professor and Fox News contributor was highly critical of both the Mueller investigation and the House impeachment inquiry and ultimately spoke on the Senate floor in the President’s defense.
Throughout Trump’s presidency, Dershowitz has explained the finer points of the law to us and has been a steady defender of Trump’s constitutional rights. To those on the left, who believe Trump has no constitutional rights, he is seen as a turncoat. So much so that he’s become a pariah among longtime liberal friends on Martha’s Vineyard, where he spends his summers.
During an interview with Ben Shapiro, among many other topics, he discussed the Democratic Party’s shift away from support of Israel.
Shapiro said he hears from a lot of Jewish Democrats that the reason Democrats are turning away from Israel is because of Trump which he finds to be ridiculous. He said:
By the time Barack Obama was president, it had moved fairly solidly into the Palestinian camp, at least in terms of being on parity with Israel in terms of popularity inside the Democratic Party and this is particularly true among young Democrats and Obama obviously facilitated that. Obama was not a fan of the state of Israel. He hated Prime Minister Netanyahu. The attempt to pin that onto President Trump is pretty astonishing again considering that the mainstream Democratic Party had been moving in this direction for quite a while labeling Israel the apartheid state…
Dershowitz said he feels conned by Obama and regrets voting for him in 2012, the second time he voted for him. He explains:
He called me into the Oval Office and he said ‘I have Israel’s back’ and I didn’t realize what he meant is to put a target on it and stab them. As he was leaving office, he ordered his representative to the U.N. [Samantha Powers] to not veto [abstain from voting] a resolution which declared…the Kotel, the Western Wall, the holiest place in Judaism, to be occupied territory along with the access roads to Hebrew University and the Hadassah Hospital and the Jewish quarter was outrageous…outrageous. And it just legitimated more and more people in the Democratic Party saying well we should have a balance of Palestinians who have turned down statehood since ’38, ’48, ’67, ’90, 2000, 2001, 2007, 2008. So, I think in the Democratic Party now, there’s a real danger support.
I’m surprised a man as smart as Alan Dershowitz could have been conned by Barack Obama.
Last month, Dershowitz said he had “information that indicated Obama directed the FBI to investigate someone at the request of billionaire philanthropist and left-wing donor George Soros.”
I have some information as well about the Obama administration — which will be disclosed in a lawsuit at some point, but I’m not prepared to disclose it now — about how President Obama personally asked the FBI to investigate somebody on behalf of George Soros, who was a close ally of his.
When asked for more detail, Dershowitz added:
That’s going to come out in a lawsuit in the near future, yeah. That is not unusual. People whisper to presidents all the time; presidents whisper to the Justice Department all the time. It’s very common; it’s wrong, whoever does it — but it’s common, and we shouldn’t think it’s unique to any particular president. I have in my possession the actual 302 [witness report] form which documents this issue and it will at the right time come out, but I’m not free to disclose it now because it’s a case that’s not yet been filed.
