Did you know Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) had a sister? Well, she wants you to know she does, and that she’s under attack by the right-wing media. Problem is, no one is sure which outlet it is, not even the left-wing media.
Tlaib took to Twitter on Tuesday and posted a picture of her sister with her children, with the claim that the “right wing media” is attacking her sister Layla whom she describes before lashing out at “racist policies” that target people like her.
“Right wing media is now targeting my little sister Layla. She’s the mother of 3, a published writer & poet, and is a sexual assault advocate for survivors like herself,” said in a series of tweets. “For years she was forced to go through extra screening at the airport b/c of unconstitutional processes targeting POC. I ran for office, not her. She may be one of the reasons I fight back so hard against racist policies, but she doesn’t deserve being harassed, and called on her personal cell phone and at her workplace on daily basis. You are going too far.”

If there are right-wing media outlets targeting family members of politicians, then I would consider that an awful thing to do and advise anyone, right or left to stop. The problem is that I can’t seem to find out which right-wing media outlet is attacking her sister, and Tlaib doesn’t elaborate.
Funny enough, not even The Hill seems to know what she’s talking about.
“It is not clear what news outlets Tlaib is referring to, or the nature of any calls to her sister,” reported The Hill. “The Hill has reached out to Tlaib’s office for more information.”
If they have responded to The Hill with more information, they have not updated the article or made a new article on the topic as of this writing.
The same can be said for the Bristol Herald Courier, who also don’t know who by or how Tlaib’s sister is being attacked and is still awaiting responses from Tlaib’s office for clarification.
It would appear that Tlaib is simply attempting to generate outrage against the right for imagined slights using innocent members of her family as bait. If that’s the case, then the only one putting family members in danger is Tlaib, and the fact that she’s doing that to obtain a cheaply gained moral high-ground is kind of disgusting.
