President Trump tossed the Obama-era declaration that climate change is a national threat, allowing us to put more things in focus that will actually kill us, like terrorists and rogue communist states. This will no doubt cause a melting down of sorts, but not of ice caps.

According to the Independent, Trump made the decision ahead of his speech on Monday, where he didn’t mention climate change by name, but did talk briefly about pulling out of the Paris climate accords.

“Climate change is not identified as a national security threat,”  said a White House official detailing Trump’s new America First National Security Strategy.

Trump’s plan puts more of a focus on the U.S. being an “energy-dominant” nation, but adds that the administration recognizes the importance of environmental health and stewardship.

The strategy document does put focus on Israeli relations with its surrounding — and very hostile — neighbors, stating “for generations the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians has been understood as the prime irritant preventing peace and prosperity in the region. Today, the threats from radical jihadist terrorist organizations and the threat from Iran are creating the realization that Israel is not the cause of the region’s problems. States have increasingly found common interests with Israel in confronting common threats.”

The document also reasserts the importance of the border wall and stopping “chain migration.”

Also, while he didn’t list it as a threat per se, he noted that American strategy recognizes that economic security is national security, and that rolling back taxes and regulations will do much to help keep us safe.
