Regarding the immigration battle at the border, the focus and rhetoric have both been ramping up in the past weeks. The issue the press spent years telling us is NOT a crisis and how the border is NOT wide open has turned to become a crisis and there is an immediate need to close the not-open southern border. Of course, all of this has to ignore that Joe Biden can take action today to seal things off using current border laws on the books – which has been in court fighting against being enforced by state governments.
The press approach to the Senate bill that is laughably woeful in addressing the problem has been one of acting like the party’s PR division, lambasting Republicans for opposing a bill that would allegedly address what the GOP has been calling for. To make this argument reporters need to ignore the GOP passed a border bill in the House nine months ago, but Chuck Schumer and the Democrats have not allowed it to move forward in the Senate.
Next, there is the case of Washington Post Reporter Louisa Loveluck, who is the paper’s Gaza-Israel correspondent – and she is also decidedly pro-Palestinian. She had a post this week decrying the media coverage of the war, which is laughable. Since November WaPo has had to issue Corrections or an Editor’s Note on three articles she has been involved with generating.
Then we have a couple of Joe Biden media nuggets. Axios comes out with an expose showing that the president has a unique fondness - an “obsession” they report - for the MSNBC early show “Morning Joe”. He is in regular content with the namesake host, Joe Scarborough, and has frequent off-the-record conversations with other show panelists and contributors. The notable part is how few in the media have expressed concern over MSNBC having undue influence over the Biden administration and possibly driving policy – given this was something theorized during the Trump years regarding Fox News.
And lastly, we will cover how the House Judiciary Committee has come across some evidence of White House censorship efforts. It was discovered that during the pandemic administration officials were in contact with executives at Amazon, pressuring the company to take down or diminish exposure to books for sale on the platform that questioned the effectiveness of COVID vaccines, and other pandemic-related narratives that the administration disapproved of during that crisis. It is assured that “Biden Book Bans” will not become a catchphrase in the press anytime soon.
Now, crack one open and savor some mainstream media mayhem and malpractice.
