What will Kamala Harris do next? That's been the question bouncing around since she suffered one of the most embarrassing presidential election defeats in modern history.
Despite having a billion dollars to spend over a three-month period, making her dollars go further than basically any other candidate in modern history, and having the press so in her corner that they laughably tried to remake her as a cultural icon, Harris still managed to not only lose, but lose in an electoral college landslide. In a sane world, the question wouldn't be what she does next. It'd be where she retires to while she collects lucrative checks from various corporate boards.
But this is 2025, and that means a Democrat never truly fails. They can only be failed, and that's left the former vice president searching for a new gig. Will she run for Governor of California? Will she bide her time to run for president again in 2028? Both seem like absurd options given how awful of a politician she is, but there's another option being weighed: Opening an institute of policy and ideas.

Now that you've picked yourself up off the floor from laughing so hard, let's talk about it.
For my money, Kamala Harris is the most vapid person to ever run for president. This is a person who could not articulate a valid policy idea if her life depended on it. She spent the entire 2024 campaign fumbling her way through interviews with hilarious results, talking both sides of every issue and spinning her patented word salads. Who can forget this banger?

KAMALA: We have to guard that spirit. Let it always inspire us. Let it always be the source of our optimism - which is that spirit which is so uniquely American. And let that then inspire us by helping us to be inspired to help solve the problems. pic.twitter.com/GTKuyuvYl5

"We need to guard that spirit. We have to guard that spirit. Let it always inspire us. Let it always be the source of our optimism, which is that spirit that is so uniquely American. And let that then inspire us by helping us to be inspired to solve the problems that so many face."
Yes, that is the woman who is going to start an institute specifically designed to develop and articulate policies and ideas. Makes sense, right?
Of course, we all know what this really is. Harris knows that if she runs for Governor of California and wins (a near certainty), she'd need to start a presidential campaign within months of being inaugurated. That just doesn't work politically, and she'd be lambasted for abandoning the state she would have just committed to lead. By parking herself in the academic world, as gut-busting as that is, she can have others make her seem smart while she waits for a 2028 announcement.
What that should tell you is that academia is a complete and total joke at this point. If Harris can end up there as a means to a political end, then there are zero standards being applied by these universities. It's all just politics, and that's a shame.
