President Joe Biden appeared with California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday to deliver remarks on the devastating Los Angeles-area wildfires. Unsurprisingly, those remarks turned out to be inappropriate and tone-deaf.

Standing in front of a large television, the president brought up his son Hunter Biden, who he recently pardoned, noting that his house didn't seem to be affected by the fires. He then said, "The good news is, I'm a great-grandfather," referring to his granddaughter recently giving birth. What that has to do with the devastating wildfires that are still ravaging parts of Los Angeles was not immediately apparent.

BIDEN: My son lives out here, by the way. They got the notification yesterday that their home has probably burned to the ground. Today, it appears that it may be still standing. We're not sure, but the good news is, I'm a great-grandfather as of today. My granddaughter (inaudible) baby girl, baby boy so I'm gonna remember this day for a lot of reasons.
Apparently, the president wasn't quite sure whether his granddaughter gave birth to a boy or a girl, but that's to be expected at this point. What strikes me about his comments is just how self-serving and insensitive they are. As I've often said about Biden, he's the reverse Forrest Gump. He has to insert himself into every situation, which is why he's told so many tall tales about various events over the years. In this case, that meant bringing up Hunter Biden.
No one wants to hear about his degenerate son, who would be in prison if not for the most corrupt presidential pardon in American history. That's certainly not something to mention when his home presumably wasn't damaged, at least according to Biden's description. It comes across as rubbing it in the faces of those who did lose everything.
There's a basic level of decorum a president should be expected to adhere to in a tragic situation like this, and Biden's simply not capable of it. It's like meeting with someone who just lost a child and proclaiming to them how great it is that your child is just fine. Normal people do not do that.
As to him announcing he's become a great-grandfather to a room full of applause, again, this was supposed to be a briefing to deliver information to people who have lost everything. There's a time and a place to brag about your good fortune, and this was cleary not the time and place. I don't begrudge the president for being excited, but this was a moment where staying on topic was paramount. It was not a moment to try to turn the devastation of others into a positive for yourself.
I've long said that Biden has sociopathic tendencies, and this only offers more evidence. Yes, he's a narcissist of the highest order, but he also had no real ability to express empathy for others. He can mouth the words at times, but he is always looking inward. That's why he can't seemingly offer support for others during tragic times without it relating to himself or his family. Remember, this is the same guy who opened his remarks on the Nashville transgender mass shooter by talking about how much he likes ice cream.
I understand that his handlers have given up at this point, but can't they at least keep him in Delaware until Donald Trump is inaugurated?
