Is a male member of "the squad" about to lose his primary battle and be booted from the House of Representatives? That's the word after a new poll found Rep. Jamaal Bowman trailing Democrat challenger George Latimer by double digits.
According to the results, the NY Post reported, Latimer leads Bowman by a 52 percent to 35 percent margin. That gap grows when the sample is narrowed to voters who participated in at least three of the last four primaries.
In a shocking new poll obtained exclusively by The Post Wednesday, Westchester County Executive George Latimer leads Bowman 52% to 35% among Democratic primary voters in the 16th Congressional District, which takes in southern Westchester County and parts of the northeast Bronx.
There are some caveats here. For one, this is a partisan pollster, which is about all you are going to get when it comes to a congressional primary like this. No major non-partisan pollster is going to waste time and money finding whether one Democrat has the advantage over another in a deep-blue New York district. There's also the fundamental issue of trying to poll smaller-scale races, which often leads it imperfect results.
With that said, you'd rather be Latimer right now given all the controversy surrounding Bowman, from his enthusiasm for fire alarms (which led to pleading guilty to a crime) to his support for Hamas. The latter issue is likely to play a big role in this particular election, as there is an ongoing effort to oust pro-Hamas representatives like Jamaal Bowman, Cori Bush, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib. Further, Latimer has a good reputation locally, having served in various offices. The same survey found that Democrats overwhelmingly positively view him while views on Bowman are in negative territory.

So what was Bowman's response to this latest news? He played the race card, of course, claiming the pollster in question isn't legitimate, and that he aired ads that "darkened" the congressman's face during the 2020 election. That's pretty much the go-to for Bowman and isn't the least bit surprising.
Regardless, "the squad" could take a gut punch if things continue in this direction. Another recent poll found that Cori Bush was down 22 points to her Democrat challenger in Missouri. Ilhan Omar, who nearly lost her primary in 2022, is also facing stiff competition in her race. If one or more of them go down, it could represent a re-alignment away from the DSA-approved far left even in some of America's bluest areas. New York will hold its primary elections for the House of Representatives on June 25th.
