Brian Kemp Opens up a Can Against Soros-Backed Prosecutors

In Florida, much consternation flowed after Gov. Ron DeSantis removed a Soros-backed prosecutor who refused to enforce laws surrounding abortion and mutilation of children. Now, Gov. Brian Kemp in Georgia is charting his own path against the scourge of district attorneys who are allowing crime to run rampant.

Kemp has signed a law that establishes an oversight board with the power to remove prosecutors throughout his state (CNN).

Republican Gov. Brian Kemp of Georgia signed legislation Friday that will create an oversight commission with the power to remove local prosecutors and district attorneys from their jobs. The measure has been heavily criticized by Democrats, including an Atlanta-area DA, who is seriously weighing charges in connection with former President Donald Trump’s actions in Georgia during the 2020 election.

Prior to the signing, Kemp’s office said that the measure, known as SB 92, would create “an oversight mechanism for district attorneys and solicitors-general across Georgia to ensure accountability in upholding constitution and statutory duties.”

“As hardworking law enforcement officers routinely put their lives on the line to investigate, confront, and arrest criminal offenders, I won’t stand idly by as they’re met with resistance from rogue or incompetent prosecutors who refuse to uphold the law,” Kemp said in a press release after signing the bill. He added that the creation of the commission “will help hold prosecutors driven by out-of-touch politics than commitment to their responsibilities accountable and make our communities safer.”

Democrats are naturally up in arms over this as their primary way to subvert success in red states has been to install radical prosecutors in deep blue jurisdictions. George Soros has infamously dumped millions upon millions of dollars into such races across the country.

That has led to predictably awful results, with massive spikes in crime in states otherwise controlled by Republicans. The situation in St. Louis, MO, is one stark example, and while Atlanta hasn’t been quite as bad on that front, there’s still certainly an issue with prosecutors going too light on criminals in the name of social justice. There’s also no reason to let things get worse before taking action.

There’s also the issue of the Atlanta-area prosecutor seeking to charge Donald Trump and others with RICO charges regarding the 2020 election. Whether the board would touch that situation isn’t known, but the mere possibility has Democrats breaking out into cold sweats.

Regardless, this is the path all red states must take. There is no excuse to continue to allow mayhem in cities when the majority of the state demands competent conservative governance. If there isn’t already a system set up to remove derelict prosecutors (as in Florida), then the legislature needs to produce a system. Sitting idly by is not an option. Too much is at stake to continue to allow people to suffer at the hands of Soros-backed (and otherwise radical) prosecutors who would rather virtue signal than do their jobs.
