Justin Trudeau Victim-Blames After French Islamist Beheading, Asserts Free Speech Has Limits

Justin Trudeau is the epitome of an ineffective, weak kneed leader, yet Canada saw it fit to put him back into power in 2019. Since then, he’s only gotten more insufferable, whether it’s his lecturing of American politics or just the ridiculousness of his beta persona.

In the aftermath of an Islamist beheading in France, one of several recent happenings in the country, Trudeau decided to weigh in as only he can. Instead of unequivocally denouncing the evil ideology that led to a person losing their life in horrific fashion, the Canadian leader decided it’d be a great time to let everyone know that free speech has limits.

OTTAWA (AFP) – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau defended free speech on Friday (Oct 30), but added that it was “not without limits” and should not “arbitrarily and needlessly hurt” certain communities.

“We will always defend freedom of expression,” Mr Trudeau said in response to a question about the right to show a caricature of the Prophet Mohammed, as France’s Charlie Hebdo magazine did.

“But freedom of expression is not without limits,” he added. “We owe it to ourselves to act with respect for others and to seek not to arbitrarily or unnecessarily injure those with whom we are sharing a society and a planet.”

Actually, freedom of expression has no limits in so far as a person is not physically harming another person. In this case, a cartoon of Mohammed was shown. That is apparently a bridge too far for Trudeau, who tries to draw some equivalency between the beheading and the mere act of showing a caricature of a religious figure. It’s insane on its face, but it’s also deeply insulting to the memories of those who have continued to lose their lives at the hands of Islamic extremism.

Trudeau continued, only making matters worse.

“We do not have the right for example to shout fire in a movie theatre crowded with people, there are always limits,” he argued.

Distancing himself from the position of French President Emmanuel Macron, Mr Trudeau pleaded for a careful use of free speech.

“In a pluralist, diverse and respectful society like ours, we owe it to ourselves to be aware of the impact of our words, of our actions on others, particularly these communities and populations who still experience a great deal of discrimination,” he said.

If the impact of someone’s words includes another person grabbing a knife and sawing off another person’s head, the issue is not words. It is also not liberal in the good, traditional sense of the word for a society to promote the idea that showing the picture of a religious figure is somehow justification for murdering someone. Trudeau isn’t doing that explicitly here, but it’s getting pretty darn close.

Politico also sought to victim-blame, claiming that France’s secular society is the issue here and not extremism which would cause someone to decapitate another person.

An embrace of blasphemy? Are the views of Islam now an official position all French citizens must adopt or risk death? Europe, and Canada in this case, are headed down a very dark path. Societies that cast tolerance aside for tyranny and limiting of speech always end up in a worse place down the road. Further, where is this concern for Christians who deal with secular societies spitting in their faces every day?

I’ll end by noting that this is the kind of rhetoric you can expect a return of in the United States if Biden is elected. Few can forget the twisting of words and excuse making that the Obama administration did for Islamic terrorism, including blaming a non-factor YouTube video for the attack in Benghazi that took the lives of four Americans. Joe Biden is Trudeau without the good hair. He’s a weak, easily pushed around politician who will no doubt adopt the path of least resistance. We’ve already seen a push for “hate speech” laws recently, and you can expect that to intensify if Democrats gain power. Vote accordingly.
