Merriam-Webster is at it again. This time it’s to push transgenderism with some rather silly new definitions.
Some may recall a few years back when the storied dictionary decided to include the leftist, inter-sectional term “woke” under this definition.
“Aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)”
I like the sly use of the word “facts” there, insinuating that being “woke” is anything more than the generally illiberal nonsense that it is.
The example they use is pretty much what you’d expect.
“We have a moral obligation to “stay woke,” take a stand and be active; challenging injustices and racism in our communities and fighting hatred and discrimination wherever it rises.”
Not content with the level of left-wing ideology currently in their publication, Merriam-Webster figures now is a good time to jump on the transgender train. They are introducing several new “definitions,” of which almost all of them are simply LGBTQ slang and have no business in a dictionary.
SPRINGFIELD, Illinois, April 29, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) — The U.S.-based Merriam-Webster dictionary company announced the addition of a number of new pro-transgender phrases to its dictionary, such as “bottom surgery,” that come directly from LGBT ideology.
Here are some of the new definitions:
Gender nonconforming: exhibiting behavioral, cultural, or psychological traits that do not correspond with the traits typically associated with one’s sex.
Top surgery: a type of gender confirmation surgery in which a person’s breasts are removed or augmented to match their gender identity.
Bottom surgery: a type of gender confirmation surgery in which a person’s genitalia are altered to match their gender identity.
I think you could justify “gender nonconforming,” given it’s more widespread use, but “top surgery?” Come on. You don’t put obscure, generalized slang into the dictionary, at least not until it reaches critical mass of use. Top surgery is not a thing. It’s a phrase some LGBTQ people supposedly use. I’ve personally never heard of such. Besides, we already have a real term for “top surgery.” It’s called breast augmentation.
Also, notice the flowery language they’ve used to lay out these new definitions. Phrases like “gender confirmation” and “their gender identity,” as if there’s no possibility a transgender person could in fact simply be battling mental illness.
The screwing around with language has become a common occurrence on the left these days. It’s a fairly calculated effort and in some ways, it seems to be working. We’ve gone from the rational medical conclusion that transgenderism is a mental disorder requiring treatment, to openly promoting body mutilation in the span of a short few years. There are mainstream academics now pushing the idea that binary sex does not exist. Words have no real meaning anymore and the world’s wokest dictionary is at the forefront to ensure that continues.
None of this is going to end well for society.
