Many moons ago, I lived in New York City during a fantastic sporting era when the Knicks, Giants, Mets, Yankees, and Rangers were all the talk of the town. I used to enjoy reading sportswriter Bob Costas’ engaging columns in the New York Daily News while riding the subway. Eventually, he became the lead anchor for NBC’s Olympics coverage for many years.
But like entirely too many in sports media, he decided to give the middle finger to half his audience and suddenly think we cared about his political musings. He’s an unabashed Never Trumper, yet as the saying goes, even a broken clock gets it right twice a day, and here Costas channels his inner Captain Obvious to tell us what we already knew in a Saturday appearance on CNN’s “Smerconish":
Longtime sports broadcaster Bob Costas took the Democratic Party to task for acting surprised over President Biden’s debate performance last week, stating it’s been "obvious" that he’s been on the decline for years…
"That one atrocious night was simply writ-large what could be seen for years and years, that he is in serious decline," Costas said. He added that it "makes you wonder whether we’ve been gaslit by the Democrats."
Gee, I wonder, Bob. You think?

Bob hasn’t always dabbled in such reality:

Costas admitted that Joe is clearly deteriorating before our eyes in real-time and must be “ushered out”:
"Yeah, I think it’s the latter and it only became more overwhelmingly obvious with the debate performance," he said, adding that people who are defending Biden as having one bad night aren’t seeing what has been the case "for years."
"Nobody should be president when they‘re 85 or 86, including the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, but this guy is clearly in decline at this point. And part of the job, leaving aside whether he can do it for the next four years, is winning the job. And as you just laid out that seems to be nearly impossible at this point."
He even blasted those in the White House and in the media for conducting such an astonishing cover-up:
"This has been so overwhelmingly obvious for so long. You don’t need a degree in public policy from Harvard to see it and to say it – if you’re willing to say it – anymore than you need a degree from MIT to say two plus two is four. And it makes you wonder whether we’ve been gaslit by the Democrats."
"This had to have been obvious to people surrounding the president, people who observed the president," he said, asking, "Wouldn’t it have been an act of patriotism, if that’s not too overblown a word in this case, to lay that out?"
Reminds me of the Talking Heads classic, “Stop Making Sense.”
To be fair, as the above clip shows, Costas did indeed call out Biden's decline in February when the president refused to do a Super Bowl interview. But so many others, from actor George Clooney to Obama operative David Axelrod, to the New York Times—the list goes on—many are admitting reality only now. Where were all those people for the last three years, as RedState brought you story after story about the glaring instances of Biden’s melting brain? Many in the media were shunned for daring to say such things by the very people who are now so shrilly acting like it’s all been some huge surprise. The hypocrisy and mendacity have been mind-bending.
Costas, like most of the media, gets overwrought with bloviating nonsense when he talks about the existential threat that is supposedly Donald Trump, but he was one of the few who called out the president's fitness for office—or lack thereof—before the debate. His analysis is right on here, too.
