Former President Donald Trump authored an opinion piece in Newsweek Monday in which he detailed all the legal assaults he has endured since he first declared his candidacy for president seven years ago.
It’s one thing to hear him riling up the crowd at rallies or to see his all-caps tweetstorms railing against the Department of Justice, but it’s another to read his detailed analysis of the lengths his opponents have sunk to and the dangers they pose to the future of the country. Trump:
The report by Special Counsel John Durham makes clear beyond a shred of doubt that the Russia Hoax was the most atrocious weaponization of our government in American history. It was a crime like no other.
Seven years ago, I ran for office taking on all the most corrupt forces and entrenched interests in our nation’s capital. My agenda was an existential threat to a Washington establishment that got rich and powerful bleeding America dry.
In an exclusive for Newsweek, former President Donald Trump said, “as savage and cruel as the Russia Hoax was for me… the real victims were the American People. The destruction this hoax caused to America is almost incalculable.”

He then reminds us of what he promised to do if elected and why he has so many enemies. His vows to stop mass illegal immigration, end globalist trade deals, get tougher with China, fight back against the deep state and the press, and “break the the neocon addiction to endless foreign wars” threatened a lot of entrenched interests. They did not take it lying down:
In response, an unelected cabal in the senior ranks of our government, in concert with their chosen candidate, Hillary Clinton, and their allies in the media, launched the de-facto coup attempt known as the Russia Hoax.
Their goal was to prevent my election, and failing that, to throw me out of office or sabotage my presidency, undercut my agenda in Congress, block my domestic reforms, and interfere with my foreign policy.
For nearly three years, they carried out a massive disinformation campaign and lawless persecution based on the monstrous lie that I was a traitor to my country.
Trump details the many attempts to disrupt his term: the spying, the FISAs, the Steele dossier, the Russia-Collusion conspiracy, and more. None of this is new, but the corporate press is already trying to pretend most of this stuff never happened. The former president believes it deeply damaged this country:
As savage and cruel as the Russia Hoax was for me, my family, my staff, and so many innocent bystanders, the real victims were the American People.
The destruction this hoax caused to America is almost incalculable. It subverted our democracy, it threatened our security, and it endangered our freedom.
He also points out that one of the most dangerous outcomes of this obsessive effort to dethrone him is the weaponization of law enforcement against the Left’s political enemies, and warned that agencies like the FBI are “interfering in the 2024 election before our very eyes.”
As I said, we’ve heard all this before. Nevertheless, reading it in a sober, logical article is a different experience than watching him work the crowd or blast out social media posts. I found it powerful.
Love Trump or hate him, he’s not wrong in what he says here: the Left has exhibited a truly dark side and is seemingly willing to throw away any principle in order to maintain power.
Trump:
There must be a reckoning. Accountability now lies in the hands of the voters. The Durham Report has made the stakes abundantly clear, and now the choice is ours: either the Deep State destroys America, or we destroy the Deep State.
