The Justice Department has announced that a federal grand jury has indicted Massachusetts Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira on charges related to allegedly leaking classified military documents.
According to a press release on the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Massachusetts’ official area of the DOJ website entitled “Air National Guardsman Indicted for Unlawful Disclosure of Classified National Defense Information”:
BOSTON – A member of the United States Air National Guard (USANG) stationed in Massachusetts has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston for allegedly retaining and transmitting classified National Defense Information on a social media platform beginning in or around 2022 and continuing until his arrest in April 2023.
Jack Douglas Teixeira, 21, of North Dighton, Mass., was indicted on six counts of willful retention and transmission of classified information relating to the national defense (National Defense Information). Teixeira was arrested on April 13, 2023 and charged by criminal complaint with retention and transmission of national defense information and unauthorized removal and retention of classified documents or materials. On May 19, 2023, U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge David H. Hennessy granted the government’s motion for detention. Teixeira remains federal custody.

As RedState previously reported, Teixeira was arrested and charged in April:
Jack Teixeira, the 21-year-old Massachusetts Air National Guardsman arrested on Thursday in connection with leaked Pentagon documents, was arraigned on Friday and charged with:
- Unauthorized retention and transmission of national defense information; and
- Unauthorized removal and retention of classified documents or material.
The two criminal charges carry a maximum of 15 years in prison. Teixeira did not enter a plea and is detained pending a hearing on Wednesday. The government is seeking continued detention.
There were numerous repercussions after his indictment, including his unit losing its intel mission, and two of his commanders received suspensions. Later revelations included the fact that the guardsman was able to obtain intelligence clearance despite previously being denied a gun license. Another intriguing aspect of the Teixeira case is that there could be a tie-in to the Chinese spy balloon debacle.
As this is a developing story, RedState will provide further updates as they become available.
