Democrats are the gift that keeps on giving. To Republicans. For all of the incompetence and series of events where Republicans continuously shoot themselves in the foot (with help from an incompetent, petulant president), they are no match for the absurdity that is the Democratic Party and their ability to screw things up.

Republicans, including GOP leaders Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell, have said Roy Moore should step aside and let somebody else take his place against Democrat Doug Jones in the Alabama race for the U.S. Senate. On the Democratic side, four women (two on the record) have accused Al Franken of groping them and Democrats have quietly rallied around him.

But then came the accusations about Democratic Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich). Not only was Conyers accused, but he paid out settlements that were not public and paid for by John Q. Taxpayer. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi appeared on Meet The Press today. Chuck Todd asked her about Conyers. Pelosi managed to stun even the most jaded of politicos with her response:

“He will do the right thing.”

She cannot bring herself to say that a person who settled multiple sexual harassment cases against him should resign.

I suppose when you’ve been a member of the party that looked the other way for decades when it came to Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton, this becomes the de facto standard defense.
