Biden Spares 37 Murderers to Thwart Donald Trump

You know those dried-out rubber bands you find in the back of an old desk drawer? And as soon as you stretch one, it breaks into a useless thing? That's all I can think of now whenever I see our departing president violate yet another social norm.

Washington, D.C., is a beautiful place. It will be even more beautiful when Joe Biden skulks out of town back to a peaceful ocean beach he doesn't deserve. This bitter, mean old man has turned lying into a skill.

You almost have to admire the consistency with which he utters serial lie after serial lie, fictitious achievements, made-up encounters, and quotations that everyone within hearing distance knows are completely false.

He's done it all so smoothly and so well for so long that he emits none of the telltale eye or head movements that homicide detectives use to spot as lies. He's announced one thing, done another, and denied any switch.

The sycophantic D.C. media act blind and express puzzlement at the disappearance of their credibility.

Biden pardons all of his son's known federal crimes and throws in an 11-year blanket pardon for any and all other crimes that haven't come out yet and, if they did, would most likely involve the son's business partner, Daddy.

Then, the least empathetic man in American public life commutes the death sentences of 37 federal convicts because taking a human life is immoral. That, according to a statement attributed to Joe Biden, a devout Catholic who supports abortion of innocent babies.

And everyone knows Donald Trump is a blood-thirsty Republican who supports the legal death penalty for heinous crimes.

Except Joe Biden did not commute the death sentences of three other federal convicts who, together, took the lives of 23 innocent Americans whose color, religion, or presence on a Boston street offended the killers. So, if Joe Biden's mores can be flexible too, much flak is possible.

That is the subject of this week's audio commentary.

The most recent audio commentary examines the ongoing outrage of congressional budget-spending schemes and scams, which are -- oh, look! -- chronic and bipartisan.

This week's Sunday column analyzes the outlook for Donald Trump's historic return to White House power on Jan. 20 -- Buckle Up! He's Baack! -- that remains too many days away.

This has been a busy writing week in our corner of RedState. In addition to the two regular weekly posts listed above, we had two other pieces.

One was an analysis of Jimmy Carter's meteoric political career tied to his passing this week at the age of 100. His defeat in 1980 by Ronald Reagan was the first presidential reelection loss in 48 years.

Since then, U.S. voters have delivered that verdict on two other incumbents seeking a second term -- George H.W. Bush in 1992 and Trump in 2020. Biden avoided that distinction by giving up last summer.

That left Kamala Harris to become the latest vice president rejected when directly seeking to inherit the top office -- Hubert Humphrey (1968), Walter Mondale (1984), and Albert Gore Jr. (2000). All happened to be Democrats.

The second post outside the paywall this week was the 24th in the ongoing series of personal memories. This one was about a few of the neat people I've encountered during my six decades of reporting and writing at home and abroad.

I've been very fortunate in these relationships, so there will be more like this.
