One of the first things Kamala Harris and Joe Biden did after taking over the White House nearly four years ago was tear up a special agreement their predecessor had carefully negotiated with Mexico.
Donald Trump had done the deal to staunch the flood of illegal immigrants that had overwhelmed border agents and threatened national security. Trump said a country without borders isn't a nation. So, he got Mexico to agree to keep the human tide on its side of the border while their cases were reviewed by United States authorities.
Trump was also building a wall along the 1,954-mile southern border to accomplish the same thing on vast empty stretches. Democrats adamantly opposed the wall through various legal and legislative maneuvers. We wondered why anyone would do that when there's already a large number of would-be immigrants waiting patiently -- and legally -- in line?
Predictably, the Biden-Harris move in 2021 ignited a tsunami of illegal immigrants surging across the border and flooding throughout the country. Biden appointed Harris as border czar to study and address the crisis.
The administration also bused thousands of the aliens to inland cities and flew thousands more to similar communities to blend into the existing illegal populations. Which did not seem to make sense if they were not really welcome.
Harris, of course, accomplished nothing to stem the flow except visit a couple of Latin American countries to pose for photos with their officials.
It's difficult to count accurately the number of unemployed, un-vetted, non-English-speaking illegal immigrants spirited around the country. Many were also from Europe and Asia, including China, which seems strange too. And then tons of illegal drugs flowed through the unenforced border to wreak health havoc on Americans.
Experts estimate more than 10 million of them are packing housing, schools, hotels, welfare offices and elsewhere in cities and towns that were left unprepared to handle the vast influx.
The financial, educational, and social burdens of these newcomers will rumble on through several generations of American taxpayers, already suffering under historic levels of inflation from the wild Biden-Harris spending.
Why do you suppose the Democrat duo of Harris and Biden imposed such damaging failures and inactions on the country?
We don't know. They never did anything real to stop the flood, and they never really explained themselves. That would have been responsive. And sympathetic media did not make a strong case against their lack of progress.
Suspicions grew widespread and illegal immigration became one of the top two issues for voters, who are already casting ballots across the land.
Harris is promising she will be a change agent, if elected. But she told the harpies on "The View" that she was involved in all the administration's major decisions and she couldn't think of a thing she would have done differently than Biden. Not a thing.
That's the topic of this week's audio commentary.
