So, how much do you believe the media?
Chances are, not much.
And that lack of credibility is well-deserved in recent times.
But what does that mean for our democracy?
This pathetic situation is not just something to complain about. Nothing will change if that’s all we do.
What are you doing to both protect yourself in this media atmosphere? And what are you doing to make the situation better, one small step for mankind?
That’s what I explore in this week’s audio commentary.
Here’s the Gallup link I mentioned on the tape.
The most recent audio commentary was on economics and what one particular economic number was hiding.
That’s not the only disappointing economic number these days. Inflation continues to increase as does unemployment.
And, ominously, February consumer spending data finds people buying less. That makes sense. It’s actually a necessity with inflation still at six percent.
It’s ominous for the country’s overall economic outlook because consumer spending makes up about 70 percent of GDP. Given inflation and rising interest rates, with more of both on the way, we seem to be teetering on the cliff of recession.
This week’s column examined the as-yet-unannounced campaign of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination.
His established record running the nation’s third-most populous state with consistent and successful conservative policies (he won reelection last fall in the one-time swing state with a 20 percent margin) has ignited much anticipation about him as the leading alternative to Donald Trump, at the moment anyway.
Recent political history, however, has some prominent examples of candidates with much (premature) promise and excitement, who then flamed out in the heat of our unusually long primary competitions. Remember President Rick Perry in 2012?
So, DeSantis will have to compete with any other Republican wannabes and show he can take the heat. That’s the intriguing scenario I explore in the column.
DeSantis is a former member of Seal Team One, but can he withstand the oncoming political attacks from you-know-who?
The would-be reelection campaign of Democrat Joe Biden is not trouble-free either. The main problem, despite all his talk and all the media hyping, is Biden’s chronic indecision. He’s yet to pull the trigger and no date is yet in sight. This raises questions.
And, of course, there are his other chronic habits of lying and getting lost in his own mind in virtually every public appearance.
And, finally, have you heard about James O’Keefe’s new venture?
