In the event that you know a little girl who needs to learn persistence: A new book is designed for just that.
In 2017, Chelsea Clinton and Philomel Books released future-bestseller She Persisted: 13 American Women Who Changed the World. The children’s picture book resulted in a musical and was followed by She Persisted Around the World: 13 Women Who Changed History. 2020 welcomed Chelsea’s She Persisted in Sports: American Olympians Who Changed the Game.
And now, a brand-spanking new release is based on Clinton’s idea.
On June 6th, Philomel will offer author Lisa Bunker’s She Persisted: Rachel Levine.

[One] thing that was true about young Rachel was that she had curly blond hair. She was also very smart, and as soon as she started school, she loved it and was good at it.
And Rachel was born transgender, or trans for short. That means that she was born with a boy body, but on the inside, in her mind and in her heart, she was a girl.
How did America’s assistant secretary for health come to a trans revelation? Reportedly, “Rachel knew for sure that she was a trans girl…when she was five years old.”
It’s unclear whether 96-page She Persisted covers the life of Richard Levine, who in 1988 married a woman named Martha.
Per NationalFile.com:
[The marriage] ended in 2011, when Richard decided he was, in fact, a woman named Rachel cursed to be born with the wrong chromosomes. For the beginning of what has become an impressive second act in life, Levine began the process of transitioning from he to she.
The time was apparently right, as Levine’s (two) children were adults…
Following a 2013 divorce, Martha wrote the following in Psychology Today:
The birthday of the dog that I adopted is the same date as my “wedding day.” Now I have something else to celebrate.
How did Martha’s ex-husband do? Clearly, she persisted.

Concerning the soon-to-be-released book’s reception, some social media users have penned preemptively negative reviews:
But doubtlessly, publication will draw a warm embrace. Recommended reading age: “six to nine years.”
As for Chelsea Clinton, she wrote the introduction.
