Is masculinity dead? According to movie star Sean Penn, it shouldn’t be.
But it doesn’t look to be triumphing at the moment.
I know an actor in Los Angeles with an unmistakably macho make-up — a perfect recipe for Hollywood…in the 80s.
His opportunities are coming up dry. These days, it appears, Tinseltown’s interested in other types:

And it isn’t just Lala Land–

But Hollywood icon Sean is speaking out on a diminishment of the masculine.
Amid promotion of his new film Flag Day, he waxed on manhood to the UK’s INews.
Contemporarily, he bemoaned, “there has been an absence of male behavior.”
Men are transforming:
“I am in the club that believes that men in American culture have become wildly feminized.”
It’s not something often heard in entertainment — even among those possessing savage physicality.
As I covered last year, action star Dave Bautista promised his upcoming project Stuber would “constantly” address toxic masculinity:
“I feel like we’re in a time where we can talk about masculinity and how it’s always been very traditionally defined in a narrow way and how that’s led to problems for everyone — for women and for men. I felt like it would be interesting to try to talk about that stuff in a traditionally very masculine genre. A buddy cop action comedy is such a dude movie, so we thought it would be interesting to talk about dude issues that also affect the whole world, in a traditionally male genre. … Throughout the film, we’re constantly talking about it.”
James Brown’s been proven wrong — it’s no longer a man’s world:

Sean’s not impressed by males’ societal softening.
But don’t get him wrong — persons with penises can still be sensitive:
“I don’t think that being a brute or having insensitivity or disrespect for women is anything to do with masculinity, or ever did.”
The actor makes for an interesting defender of something so traditional. He’s not known for his conservative flair.
He’s championed COVID vaccine mandates, been a friend to drug kingpin El Chapo, and defended Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez.
But periodically, perhaps, Sean makes a righthand turn.
Last July, he called cancel culture “ludicrous.”
And now, as relayed to INews he’s “a little frustrated with the world.”
Part of that pent-up annoyance: a transgendering of sorts.
“I don’t think that being a brute or having insensitivity or disrespect for women is anything to do with masculinity, or ever did. But I don’t think that [in order] to be fair to women, we should become them.”
Along those same lines, he recently told the Independent, “There are a lot of, I think, cowardly genes that lead to people surrendering their jeans and putting on a skirt.”
Well, there’s no denying people are putting on skirts…
