“On this vote, the yeas are 51, the nays are 49. The tax cuts and jobs act, as amended, is passed.”

Tonight Senate Republicans finally passed something. And though it wasn’t pretty, and though not every amendment we desired made it, nor every we wanted defeated fell, the votes were there as promised, and the Tax Cut Bill has passed. By a vote of 51 to 49.

This is the first tax reform bill to pass the Senate in 31 years.

The reactions over the weekend should range from apocalyptic to worshipful, and you know without my saying who will fall under each category.

The House and Senate will meet Monday to conference the bill and, most likely, an agreement will be reached.

We will have detailed analysis and reporting about what gets signed and when, and how it will impact business, growth, and debt.

But for now, it’s a victory. For what is really the first time since the 2016 election, Republican Senators set out to do something and then did it.

And make no mistake, this is a big, big victory for President Trump. Even bigger once an agreement is reached.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention: the one Republican who voted against was Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee. He was a known “no”, but the leadership knew they had the votes to pass it without him. Which, obviously, they did.
